Bio

Tiago Vieira da Silva é doutorado em Ciências da Comunicação e mestre em Comunicação, Arte e Cultura pela Universidade do Minho. É licenciado em Cinema e Audiovisual pela Escola Superior Artística do Porto. Atualmente, é docente na Escola Superior Artística do Porto, nas licenciaturas de Cinema e Audiovisual e Artes Visuais - Fotografia e no Mestrado em Realização – Cinema e Televisão. Os seus interesses de investigação incidem na relação entre o cinema, as identidades e a memória, trabalho que se tem traduzido na participação em eventos científicos nacionais e internacionais e na publicação de artigos científicos, tais como: “The Shape of History in Portuguese Contemporary Cinema: War, Mythology, and the Memory of Struggles” (2023), publicado na Quarterly Review of Film and Video. Interessa-lhe igualmente a diluição de fronteiras entre a academia e a sociedade civil na promoção da literacia fílmica, participando em ações de formação e grupos de discussão em escolas do ensino básico e secundário. É investigador do projeto “MigraMediaActs: Migrations, media and activisms in Portuguese language: decolonising mediascapes and imagining alternative futures” e do Museu Virtual da Lusofonia, atual Unidade Cultural da Universidade do Minho. É ainda investigador integrado do Centro de Estudos Arnaldo Araújo (CEAA/ESAP) e investigador colaborador do Centro de Estudos de Comunicação e Sociedade (CECS/UMINHO) e do iA* Investigação em Artes (IArtes/UBI).

Tiago Vieira da Silva has a PhD in Communication Sciences and a master’s degree in Communication, Art and Culture from the University of Minho. He has a degree in Cinema and Audiovisual from the Escola Superior Artística do Porto. He is currently professor at the Escola Superior Artística do Porto, at the bachelor degrees of Cinema and Audiovisual and Visual Arts - Photography and also at the Filmmaking – Cinema and Television Master’s Course. His research interests are focused on the relationship between cinema, identities and memory, a work that has resulted in the participation in national and international scientific events and in the publication of scientific articles, such as: “The Shape of History in Portuguese Contemporary Cinema : War, Mythology, and the Memory of Struggles” (2023), published in the Quarterly Review of Film and Video. He is also interested in blurring the boundaries between academia and civil society in the promotion of film literacy, participating in training actions and discussion groups in elementary and secondary schools. He is a researcher on the project “MigraMediaActs: Migrations, media and activisms in Portuguese language: decolonising mediascapes and imagining alternative futures” and in the Virtual Museum of Lusophony, currently a Cultural Unit of the University of Minho. He is integrated researcher at the Arnaldo Araújo Studies Center (CEAA/ESAP) and collaborative researcher at the Communication and Society Studies Center (CECS/UMINHO) and at iA - Arts Research (iArtes/UBI).
